I'm Having a Flippin' Good Time! July 2008

by Sue Sokoff

One of Kyle's favorite activities is to find a pair of uninhabited shoes, pull the loose shoestrings tight, and waggle them against each other. He will do it for hours unless we intervene. He has his favorite shoestrings, the fat white ones found on athletic shoes, and he carefully sifts through the closet until he finds just the right ones. While the activity seems pointless, it is one of the ways Kyle uses to de-stress his life much like a vacation serves to decompress ours. At the end of a stressful day, we sometimes find him in our closet happily "flippin'" shoestrings in the dark.  In light of that, I'm always amazed at what irony there is in the world. Kyle went on vacation last week and while it was fun for him to see new sights, it was a little stressful for him, at the same time.  But, I think he found a little piece of heaven about 350 miles east of home. If there ever was a place where Kyle could go and be right at home, he found it tucked away in the Ozark Mountains. I think the picture below just about says it all:
